The Dalcassian Y-chromosome DNA Surname Projects

There are currently many DNA projects being sponsored by FamilyTreeDNA.  Each Surname project has a program Administrator.  You can contact them for further information.

The projects are intended to utilize Y-chromosome DNA testing as a tool for genealogical research on surnames and there variations.

Human gender is genetically determined by a pair of chromosomes that are, by convention, designated XX (for females) and XY (for males).  Only males have the Y-chromosome, and because the male Y-chromosome is handed down intact from father to son through the generations (except for rare mutations), DNA testing can identify and distinguish ancestors on the direct male line.

If you are researching any of these surnames, please consider having a male family member submit a sample to your project.  The more participants we have, the more we will learn about our origins!

The following Dalcassian families currently have a DNA project ongoing at Family Tree DNA:

BLOOD
O'BRIEN
BRYAN
Healy
HOGAN
HUGHES
KENNEDY
McFADDEN
McMAHON
MULDOWNEY
O'MAHONY
PATTON
PLUNKETT
QUINN
REAGAN
WOLFE

All your questions will be answered in the FAQs section such as:

Is my name the only surname involved in the study or are variations included?

Does the person being tested have to be a male?

Which test should we take to be of most value?

Do I need to send in another sample to have additional tests done?

Should additional family members be tested?

What about the senior members of my family?

Can my test results be used with other projects?

And more......
