TARTANS

Conroy Tartan

(The two tartans beloware the same but from different sources.  I believe the second to be the more accurate.)

From the book 'World Tartans' by Iain Zaczek:

CONROY:

Conroy is an anglicized form of O'Mulconry (Son of Conroy).  The name has known since the Middle Ages, when it became attached to a remarkable dynasty of literary men who acted as hereditary poets to the kings of Connacht.  Torna O'Mulconry (c. 1250-1350) was chief poet to the O'Connor dynasty and the subject of a famous contest, known as the Contention of the Bards, and John O'Mulconry presided over a school of poets (1220-70).  In later years Fearfeasa O'Mulconry was one of the scribes who contributed to the chronicle, The Annals of the Four Masters.  The tartan itself is comparatively modern.  It was designed in 1986 by a member of the family, who lives in Sydney, New South Wales.
